Points and Miles
A key thing to remember is that all points and miles are not equal. Some are more valuable i.e. you need less of them for redemption compared to others while some are transferable to other programs.
Additionally, some programs allow you to create a family account and have the points from all family members to be deposited into one common pot.

Here are the most common and popular Points and Miles:
- American Express Member Rewards: These can be earned through most of the American Express cards and are valuable as they can be transferred to various airline and hotel chains e.g. Aeroplan, Alitalia MilleMiglia, Asia Miles, British Airways Executive Club, Delta SkyMiles, Etihad Guest and Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy.
- American Express Member Rewards Tier: These can be earned through the American Express Cobalt Card and can only be transferred to either Hilton Honors or Marriott Bonvoy.
- Aeroplan: These can be earned through one of the several TD, CIBC or American Express co-branded Aeroplan cards.
- Westjet Dollars: These can be earned from either the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard Or WestJet RBC Mastercard
- VIPorter Points: These can only be earned through “Qualifying Spend” activities on Porter flights i.e. points are awarded after you complete travel on a scheduled flight operated by Porter when your VIPorter number has been added at the time of booking.
- Marriott Bonvoy: These can be earned from the Marriott BonvoyAmerican Express Card
- Hilton Honors: These can only be earned from credit cards issued in the US.
- Alaska Miles: These can be earned through either the MBNA Alaska Airlines Platinum Plus Mastercard Or MBNA Alaska Airlines World Elite Mastercard
- AirMiles: These can be earned through the cobranded cards by American Express.
- Avios: These can be earned through the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite card.
