In case you missed hearing about this, please note that effective January 01, 2020, the Ontario government has eliminated OHIP’s Out-of-Country Travellers Program.
This means you no longer have coverage for:
• Doctor services (e.g. medical assessments, emergency surgery)
• Emergency outpatient services (e.g. MRIs, CT scans)
• Emergency inpatient services (e.g. hospital stays, nursing services)
So, if you are headed on a short weekend trip or an extended time away, it is more important than ever now to ensure you are protected from the unexpected costs of a travel and/or medical emergency.
So, when you plan your travels, factor in travel insurance into your costs and ensure you have adequate coverage depending on your needs and situation. DO NOT be guided by price alone as you might find yourself out of pocket if you need medical care while overseas. Also, be sure to disclose any pre-existing conditions so as to be covered adequately.
Talk to your friendly broker or do a google search for a provider.
Safe travels.
