Here is card that doesn’t get much publicity and not very well known to us Canadians.
It is none other than the “MBNA Alaska Airlines World Elite Mastercard” credit card.
This is my go to card to use where Amex is not accepted. This is also a good card to have as you can use this at Costco in store and at costco.ca.
Here are a few great benefits:
1. You get a sign up bonus of 30,000Alaska miles after spending $1000 within 90 days of opening the account.
2. $99 annual fee but it can be reduced to $39. Read on on how to get a $60 rebate.
3. One complimentary checked bag per passenger on the same qualifying reservation, up to a maximum of six passengers on Alaska airlines.
4. Every year on your account anniversary buy one round trip and get a companion fare of $121 (USD) ($99 plus taxes and fees from $22) on Alaska Airlines. There are no blackout dates.
5. Alaska miles can be used to book flights not only on Alaska but also on Emirates, British Airways, Japan Airlines, Iceland Air etc.
6. Taxes and fuel surcharges are usually lower.
Here is how to get $60 off on your annual fee.

Step 2:
Do a search for “Alaska” and then sign up for
“Apply for the MBNA Alaska Airlines World Elite®Mastercard® credit card”

Step 3:
Use the card and spend at least $1000 within the first 90 days of account opening.
Step 4:
Wait for the rebate cheque of $60 to be mailed to you. (You may need to login to your account at www.greatcanadianrebates.ca to request for the cheque to be mailed out.
I have used Alaska Miles to experience a First Class flight to Dubai on Emirates for under US $100 in taxes.
Happy Shopping and Happy Travels.
