Free Multi-risk travel insurance from Emirates

Free Multi-risk travel insurance from Emirates

Emirates – that was the worlds first airline to offer free global cover for your COVID-19 health expenses and quarantine costs back in July 2020, has done it again by now offering a free multi-risk travel insurance. You will now be able to get free multi‑risk travel insurance with every flight, including cover for COVID‑19.

High level details of the coverage

The multi‑risk travel insurance automatically applies to your ticket when you purchase flights on or after 1 December 2020, up to 31 March 2021.

There are no forms to complete – all you have to do is simply buy your flights either on emirates.com, through their contact centres, their retail offices, or with your travel agent. If you need to use your cover you can call one of their 24‑hour support numbers in your preferred language. You will be covered in any country, even if you travel onwards to another city.

Your cover is valid for the duration of your return trip (or up to 365 days after your departure date from your original country of departure, whichever is earlier).

If you’re flying on a one‑way trip, the cover ends 48 hours after you arrive at your final destination. Cover for emergency medical expenses and overseas quarantine allowance expire 31 days after arriving at your final destination.

What are you covered for?

  • Up to USD 500,000 for overseas medical expenses and emergency evacuation.
  • Up to USD 7,500 if your trip is cancelled due to contracting COVID‑19 or for other reasons named in the policy.
  • Up to USD 7,500 if your trip is cancelled or cut short if the school year is extended due to COVID‑19 beyond the departure date, and you or a relative is a full‑time teacher, full‑time employee, or a student at a primary or secondary school.
  • Up to USD 7,500 if your trip is cut short due to you or a relative* falling ill overseas, including contracting COVID‑19, and you need to return home.
  • Up to USD 7,500 if you have to abandon your travels for failing a COVID‑19 test or medical screening at the airport.
  • USD 150 per day, per person for up to 14 consecutive days if you test positive for COVID‑19 and are unexpectedly placed into mandatory quarantine while overseas.

Less Exclusions

Unlike the exclusion that applied under the previous free global cover – this time, you are covered under this policy even if the country of your residence is advising against all but essential travel. However, you will not be covered if your claim arises in connection with or during your trip to a specific country or area for which an official government agency has mandated a border closure or issued a travel prohibition or ban.

Some positive things to note are:

  • There are no age restrictions for this policy.
  • Subject to the terms and conditions of the policy, you are covered for costs of quarantine if you are unexpectedly placed into an individual mandatory quarantine outside your country of residence by an order of a governmental body.
  • You are also covered if you use Skywards Miles or Cash + Miles to purchase the ticket as long as its issued by Emirates with 176 ticket stock.

Conclusion

Note that at CanadaPointsGuy.com we always advocate safe and responsible travel, so its reassuring to know that there is extra coverage for that peace of mind if you are required to travel for essential reasons.
