Aeroplan and TD has just announced a targeted promotion where you can
– earn upto 20x Aeroplan points per $1 and
– save 15% on base fares within Canada, to the US and Sun destinations.
You will need to book by September 6, 2021 for travel by June 30, 2022.
The first step is to check your email and register online and later use the provided promo code for the discount when booking.
Clicking on the link on the email will take you here:
You should see the confirmation as:
Note that the Offer will only apply to, the Account primary cardholder who is the recipient of the email and who registers during the Offer Period to receive the Offer for the Account. You must register and activate the offer by visiting the designated landing page of the Offer, entering the Aeroplan number associated with their Account, accepting the Terms and Conditions of the Offer, and selecting the digital “Register now” button before any Purchase can be considered an Eligible Purchase. However, when I clicked from the targeted email, I was not required to follow the steps above.
I received this offer on the TD Aeroplan Visa Business card, where it states I will earn the normal 2 Aeroplan points plus 18 additional bonus Aeroplan points for this Offer resulting in a total of 20 Aeroplan points for each $1.00 in Eligible Purchases, up to a total of 20,000 points. The 2 Aeroplan points earned as part of the accelerated earn rate in the Air Canada purchase category for this Offer should appear in your Aeroplan account following the billing cycle in which the associated purchase was charged to the Account. However, allow up to 6‑8 weeks after the Offer Period ends to receive the 18 additional bonus Aeroplan points for each $1.00 in Eligible Purchases earned under this Offer.
The email also states that the Flight Discount Offer is available only for TD Aeroplan Visa Business Cardholders (“Qualifying Cardholders”) who will receive a 15% discount on Qualifying Bookings made at aircanada.com by using the Promo Code provided in the email for the purchase of a Qualifying Booking between August 23, 2021 at 00:01 EST and September 6, 2021 at 11:59 pm (inclusive). “Qualifying Bookings” means flights originating in Canada to all destinations where Air Canada flies within Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean, and can only be applied to Air‑Canada published Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class base fares and the flight must have travel dates between August 23, 2021, and June 30, 2022 (inclusive).
Now lets look at how you can make this even better by taking advantage of the 65% Aeroplan points bonus on a cancelled flight.
Since the cap is at $1000, if you book a flight that you don’t plan to take,
You will earn 20X on $1000 for a sub total of 20,000 Aeroplan Points.
Now if you cancel and take the 65% bonus in Aeroplan Points, you would get another 55,550 Aeroplan points if you address is outside of Canada.
Thats a total of 75,550 Aeroplan Points for $1000 in spend.
Now, comapare that to buying points for $1000
Since there are no promos currently to buy points, you will only get 34,000 Aeroplan points for $1020 which is not a good deal at all.
Having said that, we do not recommend doing this speculatively as devaluation can occur any time. It is only recommended to purchase Aeroplan Points or do the cancel and convert to Aeroplan if you have an upcoming trip and need to boost up your balance.
Also note that the multiplier offer will vary depending on what card you hold with TD.
Its great to see Aeroplan coming up with several offers providing bonus Aeroplan points and we look forward to more such offers as travel opens up.
