In the wake of the void left behind after LCBO ended their partnership with AirMiles in March of this year, Aeroplan and LCBO has announced today that they are launching a new loyalty partnership. This will allow one to collect Aeroplan Points on their purchases at LCBO stores across Ontario.
LCBO customers will be able to earn 1 Aeroplan point for every $4 spent. This will be will be rounded down to the nearest multiple of $4 to calculate the number of Aeroplan points you will earn.
So, for example if you buy Hendrick’s Lunar Gin, you will earn 14 Aeroplan points as it will be calculated by rounding down to $56 divided by 4.
In addition, there will be bonus points for purchasing select LCBO products. More details on additional benefits and options to follow.
You will also be able to redeem Aeroplan points for LCBO Gift Cards starting at just 1,000 Aeroplan points for a $10 LCBO gift card – not the greatest redemption, when you can get much better value by redeeming for flights in premium cabins.
So, to maximise, the simplest way would be to use an Aeroplan co-branded card and double dip by getting 1 Aeroplan point per $1 on the card and then 14 Aeroplan points on the above purchase at 1 Aeroplan point per $4.
However, you can even take it a step further by using your American Express Cobalt to purchase a gift card for $50 at a grocery store and use that to pay at LCBO. In this case you can net 5x on $50 at Metro or Sobeys plus 14 Aeroplan points at LCBO for a total of 264 Aeroplan points.
A firm date has not been announced yet, but this partnership is scheduled to be implemented before year-end 2021.
So, Cheers!! A sip on the ground can now earn you points to sip mimosas in the air.
