In this day and age when points enthusiasts have several credit cards and several loyalty program cards to carry – either the physical cards or even in their digital wallets, will certainly rejoice at the recent reminder announcement from Airmiles.
Its actually been a while now that you can safely and securely link any eligible Canadian-issued Mastercard to your AIR MILES card, and instantly unlock bonus offers at several merchants such as Subway, Boston Pizza, The Shoe Company, ViaRail, Kernels, BeaverTails and more. Once you’ve linked your cards, there’s no need to show your AIR MILES card at purchase. Just pay for eligible purchases at participating brands with your linked Mastercard to redeem their offer.
You can link your Airmiles to any eligible Canadian-issued Mastercard by clicking here. You simply need to enter your Canadian-issued Mastercard number and AIR MILES collector number as shown below.
Here are some of the offers from a few merchants:
– Get 8 Bonus Miles™ when you spend $15 at Subway® locations, online or in-app
– Get 35 Bonus Miles™ when you spend $60 at Boston Pizza locations, online or in-app
– Get 50 Bonus Miles™ when you spend $90 at The Shoe Company in-store
Just be sure you read the terms and the offer period to be eligible and get the AirMiles. In particular, note that purchases made by an authorized user of a supplementary card linked to the Eligible Mastercard do not qualify, unless the supplementary card is also linked to the AIR MILES collector number.
Personally, I will not be actively pursuing these bonus offers of Airmiles by using a Mastercard, as I prefer Amex Membership Rewards i.e. 5x at restaurants by using Amex Cobalt as a form of payment and these can be transferred to Aeroplan, Bonvoy etc.
To compare this:
With the AirMiles/Mastercard offer I will get 35 Bonus Miles when I spend $60 at Boston Pizza locations
while, if I used Amex Cobalt I will get 5x on $60 i.e. 300 Amex MR which is transferable.
What are your thoughts? Are you an avid Airmiles collecter and will go for this or collect other points by using payment methods other than MasterCard and pass on Airmiles?
