You can now earn Aeroplan points on all your purchases in LCBO stores effective November 16, 2021. Simply swipe or scan your Aeroplan Program membership card (the “Aeroplan Card”) prior to check-out when you make a purchase at an LCBO Retail Location to earn Aeroplan Points.
On your purchases at LCBO, you will earn 1 Aeroplan point per $4.
Additionally, select products may be promoted in-store with time-limited Bonus Offers (“Product Bonus Offers”). The amount of bonus Aeroplan Points per product and the duration of the in-store Product Bonus Offer will vary and are subject to change without notice. All Product Bonus Offers are while supplies last. Not all LCBO Retail Locations will feature the same in-store Product Bonus Offers.
The option to redeem Aeroplan points for LCBO gift cards via the Aeroplan sStore will be coming soon. However, I am not looking forward to that as redeeming Aeroplan points for gift cards is always a bad redemption value. I would rather spend Aeroplan points on Etihad First and sip the finest.
To celebrate this new launch, for a limited time, there are two promotions:
1. From now till November 28, you will earn 2x the points on your first purchase of $50 or more.
Example: If you earn 15 Base Points on a transaction of $60 between November 16 to 28, 2021, you will receive a bonus of 15 Aeroplan Points (for a total of 30 Aeroplan Points) on that transaction.
2. LCBO customers who are not currently Aeroplan members may join Aeroplan through November 28, 2021 and earn 250 bonus Aeroplan points with their first LCBO purchase.
Note that only transactions made at LCBO retail stores are eligible for earning Aeroplan Points. Must be 19 years of age or older. Purchases on LCBO.com or through the myLCBO mobile application will not qualify for earning Aeroplan Points. You do not need to be an Ontario resident to be eligible to earn and redeem points, however you will need to shop at an LCBO retail store located in Ontario.
As, mentioned in my previous post, the optimal way to earn Aeroplan points at the LCBO, would be first to purchase a LCBO gift card at a grocery to get the 5x the points per $1, then use that gift card for purchases at LCBO.
Example, use your American Express Cobalt at Metro to purchase a LCBO gift card for $100 – this will net you 500 American Express MR-S points which can be transferred to Aeroplan at 1:1.
Then use this for purchases at LCBO which will earn 25 Aeroplan points at the base rate and another 25 Aeroplan points during the launch promo.
So thats a total of 550 Aeroplan points on a $100 spend.
The next best option would be to pay with an Aeroplan co-branded credit card and earn an additional 1 Aeroplan point per dollar spent.
In conclusion,
– its good to have an option to accumulate Aeroplan in place of the AirMiles options earlier
– 1 point per $4 at LCBO is pretty weak, while you can earn 1 point per $2 at Home Hardware store.
– Future option to redeem Aeroplan points for LCBO gift cards will be a poor redemption in value.
– I hope this partnership extends to The Beer Store and in other provinces to SAQ for e.g. in Quebec.
– Here is another way to keep your Aeroplan account active, by doing a small purchase at LCBO in addition to Home Hardware stores.
