When Aeroplan revamped and re-launched their program in November 2020, we had high expectations for epic sign up bonuses. Alas, we were all disappointed when we found out that it was a paltry 10,000 points to start with on both the entry level and core level cards by TD, CIBC and American Express.
Fast forward to 2021 and we saw TD roll out new offers in January followed by CIBC in February.
Credit Cards
To recap;
TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite card now comes with up to 20,000 Aeroplan points and also a bonus Buddy Pass.
TD Aeroplan Visa Platinum Card also with up to 20,000 Aeroplan points.
TD Aeroplan Visa Business card is also seeing an increase with up to 25,000 Aeroplan Points and a bonus Buddy Pass.
Plus you get First Year Free on all three cards.
Wait!! There’s more bonus points to be earned when you open a bank account:
TD Unlimited Chequing Account earns you 10,000 Aeroplan points.
TD All-Inclusive Banking Plan earns you 10,000 Aeroplan points too.
Not to be left behind, we see similar offers from CIBC;
CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite now comes with 20,000 Aeroplan points and also a bonus Buddy Pass.
CIBC Aeroplan Visa Business now comes with 20,000 Aeroplan points and also a bonus Buddy Pass.
Plus you get First Year Free on both these cards.
The CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege comes with 75,000 Aeroplan points also also with a $599 Annual fee. This sees a jump from the previous offer of only 50,000 Aeroplan points in November.
American Express have not yet announced any increased bonus offers.
American Express Aeroplan Card is still at 15,000 Aeroplan points.
American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card is still at 65,000 Aeroplan points and
American Express Aeroplan Business Reserve Card is also still at 65,000 Aeroplan points.
Buying Aeroplan points
Now while at CanadaPointsGuy.com we do not advocate buying points speculatively without having a firm redemption strategy in mind as devaluation can happen anytime, lets look at promos to “buy” Aeroplan points.
Aeroplan has launched a Valentines Day Promo where you can get 40% extra and upto 80% extra Aeroplan points when you buy Aeroplan points between February 02-14, 2021.
40% bonus when you buy points for yourself at 2.1 cpp, and
80% bonus when you gift points to someone else – which works out to 1.67 cpp.
Ofcourse, you can buy and get 80% extra for yourself by buying for someone within your Family Sharing Pool.
This rate is even better than booking flights and then cancelling to get the extra 65% in Aeroplan points.
Buying Air Canada Gift Cards
Yet another way since we cant really travel at the moment is to buy Air Canada gift cards for future travels and earn bonus Aeroplan points.
Air Canada has launched a promo called “An Offer to Love”
For a limited time until February 14, 2021, you can earn 2 bonus Aeroplan points for every $1 spent when you purchase up to $750 in Air Canada Gift Cards, and earn 5 bonus Aeroplan points for every $1 spent when you purchase more than $750 in Air Canada Gift Cards.
When you are ready to fly, you can purchase your flight by combining two Gift Cards or one Gift Card and a credit card.
Dont forget, if you use an Aeroplan co-branded card, you will earn Aeroplan points for the purchase as well.
Shopping at Aeroplan e-store
Another way is to take advantage of the multiplier offers when shopping on the Aeroplan e-store under the current promotion until February 14, 2021.
You can earn upto 7x Aeroplan points when shopping through the Aeroplan e-store e.g. 7x at Indigo, Dyson or 5x at Sephora, Simons or 4x at Hudsons Bay etc.
So, now is a perfect time to rake in those bonus points using one of the ways mentioned above that we can use for future travels.
