One of the perks of the RBC WestJet Mastercard was the companion voucher that got deposited into your account upon sign up and 30days after renewal each year thereafter.
However, this is changing effective April 1, 2020, and since changes to reward programs are normally never in the benefit towards the traveller, yes, you guessed it, the World Elite Companion Voucher base fare rates are increasing.
Here is a comparison of the increase:
A) round-trip travel in Canada and the continental U.S.
Now : $99 CAD
Effective April 1, 2020 : $119 CAD
B) round-trip travel to/from Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Hawaii
Now : $299 CAD
Effective April 1, 2020 : $399 CAD
C) round-trip travel to/from the rest of the WestJet network
Now : $399 CAD
Effective April 1, 2020 : $399 CAD (No Change)
The good news is that if your voucher is already in your account, you are locked in at the current rate for the eligibility period of the voucher.
However, World Elite Companion Vouchers issued to new cardholders are subject to base fare rates based on credit card application dates as follows a) approved cardholders who apply on or before March 31, 2020, will remain at the former rates for the eligibility period of the voucher;
b) approved cardholders who apply on or after April 1st, 2020, will be subject to new rates.
So get your application in before March 31, 2020 and get 250 WestJet dollars plus the 100 additional WestJet dollars.
