Wondering how to get in on the points game and whats the best card to start with? Confused with where to start?
When my friends hear how I am able to fly for pennies on the dollar and turn left on the aircraft to get to my seat(or go to the upper deck) I am often asked whats the best card to start with. Hence, this post should help you on this journey to sipping champagne, feasting on caviar and enjoying onboard shower/spas.
So, if you are just starting out, I would recommend you start with the American Express Cobalt Card.
This is a fairly new credit card introduced for us Canadians by Amex and it has several firsts in Canada.
First of all its a Credit Card and not a Charge Card.
Secondly, there is a fee – but its not yearly payable upfront, its $10 billed every month.
Thirdly, it has the highest earn rate per dollar on any Amex card in Canada. You can earn 5X Membership Rewards Select(MRS) points per $1 on eligible eats and drinks. In addition, you get 2x per $1 on eligible travel and transit and 1MRS per $1 on all other spend.
Bonus points: Earn 2500 membership rewards select for each monthly billing period when you spend $500 or more.
Some redemption options available to you are:
– Redeem points towards any of your card purchases
– Flights through the Fixed Points Travel Program
– Travel on American Express Travel Online
– Concerts and events at ticketmaster.ca
– Purchases on Amazon.ca
– Gift cards and merchandise through Membershiprewards.ca
– Transfer points to SPG and Hilton.
