It was a last minute decision to visit St Jacobs for Canada Day long weekend and the closest hotel to St Jacobs market was the Courtyard Waterloo St. Jacobs.
I must say I truly enjoyed my short stay here which is in close proximity to St Jacobs Market, St Jacobs Outlet Mall and also the St Jacobs Country Playhouse.
This Courtyard is fairly new and believe it was constructed in 1998 and so it doesnt appear to be in need of repairs or an update.
Cassandra was at the front desk who was very helpful and very polite and friendly while checking us in. She is also a samaritan who came to my rescue in my hour of need – more on that a bit later.
The lobby was very spacious with lots of sitting areas.
There was also a desk where you could print your boarding pass.
The room was pretty good as I had my reservations earlier given that this was a Courtyard.
The gym was also quite spacious.
However, I was surprised to find that it did not have a swimming pool which would have been welcome given the heat wave Ontario was experiencing.
After checking in, we decided to wander around and find a restaurant for dinner.
On the way back, the car started puttering after the battery indicator light came on. I was fortunate to be able to make it back to the parking area of the hotel and thats when I lost all electrical power on the vehicle. I thought the battery had died as I might have accidentally left the light on the night before. Now, I have emergency road side assistance from Canadian Tire, but they do not offer battery replacement. I called CAA as a non member, but for some reason, the customer service representative refused to send someone over the same evening even if I offered to join as a member of CAA. The website did state if I take the Basic membership, I can access all benefits right away but the agent refused to help. In my desparation, I went down and mentioned to Cassandra my plight and she offered to call CAA for me on her membership. She was told someone would come withing 45mins to replace the battery. However, there was a slight mix up and a tow truck showed up to jump start the car instead. So that meant another call to CAA, and after about 10 minutes or so on hold, Cassandra was advised another service technician would show up in about an hour. This technician was very friendly and diagnosed that the issue was not with the battery but the alternator so there was no point in replacing the battery as it still wouldn’t allow me to drive 80kms back home next morning.
For this I have to say a big heart felt THANK YOU to Cassandra for going above and beyond in my hour of need. Cassandra is indeed a great asset to Courtyard Waterloo St. Jacobs. I eventually ended up calling Canadian Tire next morning to tow the vehicle back home.
Next morning we were also able to get a late check out and also store our bags in the office (as we didnt have our car anymore) while we enjoyed the Waterloo Central Railway ride.
Overall, it was a very pleasant stay, all the staff that we interacted with were very friendly and Cassandra ofcourse was phenomenal. We would definitely consider staying here again if we find ourselves in that area again.
