Today, Air Canada’s acquisition of the Aeroplan Program has been concluded.
So, what does it mean to us in simple terms?
1. This acquisition will allow for all of your Aeroplan Miles to be honoured on a one-to-one basis in Air Canada’s new loyalty program when it launches next year, in 2020.
2. You can continue to earn and redeem Aeroplan Miles with full confidence.
3. You can earn and enjoy Aeroplan and Air Canada Altitude status recognition without interruption.
4. As far as credit cards are concerned, it’s business as usual. Aeroplan members can continue to earn Aeroplan Miles with their Aeroplan-affiliated credit cards, and redeem miles towards a range of Aeroplan rewards, including travel with Air Canada and the Star Alliance member airlines.
5. Air Canada continues to work with TD Bank, CIBC and American Express to create a range of credit card options that will better serve us and earn rewards more quickly, and enjoy additional benefits when traveling with Air Canada.
What we wont see happen is:
Air Canada’s new program will not retain any of the future partnerships recently announced by Aeroplan, for example with Porter, Flair and Air Transat.
So, its not all doom and gloom. We can now look forward to new sign up bonuses on the new flavours of the credit cards.
So, again, what do we do meanwhile? Apply for any Aeroplan credit cards you havent applied for yet and take advantage of the sign up bonuses.
Bon Voyage!!
